Sweet boy

I have to say that I have the sweetest boy ever! We cosleep and he gets a lot of kisses at night. I still nurse once at night and he's getting used to not nursing all night long so he was a little restless. He was starting to get comfy when he wrapped his little arms around my neck and gave me a kiss on the cheek. There is absolutely no better feeling than being loved on by your toddler. It was a sweet little way for him to say "I love you". I really hope that this little thing becomes a habit :) I'm anxiously awaiting the moment when he is able to actually say the words.
He has also lost his baby face. On his half birthday I got an email in the mail with a percent off if I wanted to order any of his 1st birthday pictures. I went on the site to look at them and I almost cried when I noticed that he looked like such a baby in the pictures! His little face doesn't have the chubbiness to it that babies have. Can I tell you that this just makes me want to have a baby even more?
Trying to think of a good topic for the next blog. Maybe breastfeeding and milk sharing.

Happy parenting!

Holy cow, it's 2011!

Where did the last 18 months go? I can't believe my little man is already 1 1/2 years old. And we are talking about adding a #2 to our little family. I couldn't have imagined how much would go on in my life in 2010. I'm so excited to start a new year and see how mj grows.
He's still on his boycott. We've started bribing him with mini m&ms. He gets 1 for pee and 2 for poo. He gets so excited when he goes and he knows he's going to get a treat. But he gets very frustrated when he sits on his potty and doesn't get anything. I don't know that I love this new idea but it's worth a shot. Especially since my little turkey could have been potty trained 2 months ago had he not decided to be too busy to take a seat.
Christmas was wonderful! I'll try and post some pictures soon. MJ got a train table and some things to play with on it. We tried to keep Christmas pretty simple this year but he still got way too many toys. His favorites are his new zhu zhu pets. We found them for $4 at walmart 2 days after Christmas so we got him some with a gift card (and some to give him for Easter). He lines them up and presses their backs at the same time to race them. Beautiful. He's so smart and it amazes me daily.
Lately I've been a little obsessed with finding mj a waldorf inspired doll. They are wonderful and I really appreciate the waldorf idea as well as the fact that these are handmade dolls. I must have looked at close to 200 dolls before almost deciding against getting him one altogether. It's very overwhelming trying to choose a doll for your son when the cheaper ($60) dolls are just not anywhere near the quality of the more expensive ones ($120+). I kept going back to the dolls made by Dragonfly's Hollow. The dolls are gorgeous and a friend has one so I trust the quality. The problem is that she doesn't do customs right now and her dolls are incredibly hard to obtain. You have to get on etsy just at the right time and put the doll in your cart. Then you have to sign into paypal and pay for the doll before it's yours. To make it more unlikely, there were only 2 boys in the whole upload. I'm all for MJ having a girl baby doll (in fact, he already has one) but I'm not going to spend that much money on a doll that he might feel uncomfortable with later, not to mention how Dad would have felt about that.
She uploaded a little red head, Chandler, as her first boy. I had him in my cart and messed up the first time I put in my paypal password. I missed him! I wasn't really expecting to get one of her dolls and I had already decided who would make a custom for me after (even though the quality isn't as good and I wouldn't have been near as pleased). She uploaded a beautiful brunette boy, Phoenix, and I somehow was able to snag him! Seriously, people try for MONTHS without any luck getting one of her dolls. And here I was on my very first upload and I got one.
I've shown mj a few pictures of him and he seems to be really excited. I'm hoping he gets here early next week.
All of that doll talk leads me to my next obsession. I love making things. I've been doing some bath salts and sugar scrubs for people and I love using it myself. I've also made some lip balm, wool dryer balls (more info on a later post), and some things from cloth. I think I need to make some doll things now.
It would be way more fun to be able to make doll dresses, hats, aprons, skirts... but it's a boy so I'm going to be making pants and tshirts. I also want to make some little shoes for the guy. My goal is to have some matching pjs for mj and phoenix by the end of next weekend. This weekend I think I'll make mj a sling for his baby. I wear him a lot and I think he'll enjoy being able to wear his baby. The doll is 15" tall so I'll have to make sure I make it big enough to fit him.

Here are some links to some things I want to make soon:
A t-shirt grocery bag

pants from a t-shirt

Footie shoes for Phoenix

There are more things that I know I'll want to do but those are the ones I'm thinking of for now.

And gdiapers (have I not done a blog about them yet...yikes!) is even sending me some tiny Gs so Michael can diaper his little dude. So excited and wonderful of them!

Both boys are feeling pukey and I'm about to fall asleep at the computer so I'd better go join them in bed.

Not sure if I've mentioned this on here but mj is boycotting the potty!! Can I please vent for a second? I know that he's only 17 months and that most kids don't potty train until way later. But he has had a potty since he was 4 months old! And he's consistently pooped on it since he was 6 months. I've never had to wash these nasty poopy diapers. And I don't like it! He seems to be flushing the virus from a couple of weeks ago and thats causing especially nasty ones. Ugh!
Hoping that this phase doesn't last long because I am not enjoying it.

The past few days

I think this was the last time he willingly went on the potty: tuesday!
A fb friend of mine just had a little boy. Today he went in for his circumcision. There were many comments on the subject. I wanted to share my own thoughts but since this little guy has already gone through it I felt like it would just make someone upset.
According to the comments my son isn't a "big boy", he will have an unhappy and not handsome penis, and won't thank me later because he will have "a funny looking peepee". All because I chose to not have a doctor cut off the most sensitive part of a fairly important (as opposed to the unimportant) area on his body.
I was a little offended and wanted to go on a bit of a rant but I realized that they are probably uneducated on the subject. Heck, I even had the circ scheduled and ready to go until the night before the appointment. I just couldn't do that to him.
And one of the commenters talked about having to leave the building because she couldn't listen to her son scream during the procedure. But then her doctor told her that it really didn't hurt him, boys only cry because they're legs are being tied down and they don't like it.
Ugh!
Sure he won't remember it when he's older but he wouldn't remember if you cut off his thumb but he might miss it.
And to top it off, she had to take him to the er today because he was bleeding too much. How is that ok!?
Moral of the story? Do your research.
I'll step off my soap box now. I have some pictures to upload :)

I'm pretty sure I have the coolest kid ever! He's 16 months old now. He waves and says "bye" but his "bye" is missing the b sound. It's very cute!! And he blows kisses when I leave for work and tell him I love him.
This morning he figured out how to open the bathroom door. He's so smart! And so tall!
One of his favorite things is taking a bath. He's really enjoying the water and splashing around. I'm debating starting swim lessons again this winter.
Mj loves people. Especially babies! It's absolutely wonderful to watch him walk up to a baby and give him/her a hug. It's precious.
He weighed 22lb 1oz today. He's hovered around 22 for a couple of months now.
Mj has been fighting drinking milk lately. We introduced some sugar free chocolate milk and have no problems anymore! I do think dad adds too much chocolate but he's a skinny boy so some extra chocolate isn't worth an argument.
He's still sleeping in bed with me. I'll be honest, I love it! I'd like to think that he'll be in his own room by his 2nd birthday but right now I just don't mind a bit.
Speaking of sleeping, he's been out for 2 hours now and I'd better head that way.
Happy parenting :)
